Ohio River from Fort Boreman Park in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

The WWW Interstate Planning Commission (WWW) is designated as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Wood County, West Virginia and the townships of Belpre, Dunham, Fearing, Newport, Marietta, Muskingum, and Warren in Washington County, Ohio. As the MPO, WWW serves as the regional transportation planning agency and forum for cooperative decision-making.

Wirt County, West Virginia was originally included in both the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) and the transportation planning study area. Following its removal from the MSA during the 1980 Census, Wirt County was no longer included in the planning area; however, the official name of the organization (Wood-Washington-Wirt Interstate Planning Commission) remained unchanged.

WWW serves as the formal decision-making body responsible for continuing, cooperative, and comprehensive transportation planning in accordance with federal and state requirements, including those of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), West Virginia Code, and Ohio Code.

Through its planning process, WWW develops plans and programs that:

  • Support economic vitality
  • Improve safety and security for motorized and non-motorized users
  • Enhance accessibility and mobility for people and freight
  • Protect and enhance the environment
  • Improve system integration and connectivity
  • Promote efficient management and operation
  • Emphasize preservation of the existing transportation system
  • Encourage coordination with the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH), the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), non-metropolitan local officials, and human service transportation providers

WWW is housed at the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council (MOVRC).
